September 2026 Energy Update : A Quiet Beginning

A quiet beginning

You’re probably still going. Still checking, still answering, still moving at the speed August asked for, and somewhere underneath all of that the calendar changed.

Nothing has arrived in a week. Nothing has needed you in the middle of the night.

The quiet is already here. You just haven’t stopped long enough to stand in it.

Still running on August

August took a lot. Short nights, long days, a lot of feeling and nowhere to put it down, and by the end of it most of us were running on something that wasn’t rest.

That’s what’s still carrying you. It goes further than it should, which is the trouble with it. You can get a whole week done on August energy and not find out you’re empty until you finally sit down.

So you’re checking over your shoulder for the next thing, holding your shoulders up somewhere near your ears, waking at four in the morning for a reason you can’t name. Nothing is wrong with you. A body that braced for a month doesn’t put it down the moment the pressure lifts. It puts it down when it starts to trust that nothing else is coming, and trust moves slower than a calendar page.

Practice

Sit down somewhere you won’t be interrupted. Find one place in you that’s still holding. Jaw, shoulders, hands. Don’t fix it and don’t breathe into it and don’t do anything about it. Keep your attention there for a minute and notice that it’s holding on for something that already passed.

A nine that lands on a one

September is the ninth month, and nine is the number of endings. August was the ending. The long clearing out.

This September adds up differently. Nine plus the one we’ve been carrying all year makes ten, and ten comes back around to one.

One is where things start.

So the month that looks like a closing is an opening, and it doesn’t announce itself. There’s no fanfare in it. You may not notice it happening until sometime in the spring, when you look back and find the beginning was here.

Practice

Take a page and write what ended in August. Past tense, plain words, no meaning made of it. Name it and put the pen down.

Something wants to start

Around the 10th you’ll feel the turn. Everything before that date still belongs to August, and everything after belongs to what’s coming.

The thing that starts is small. It’s a sentence that keeps arriving in the shower, a name you keep almost texting, a want that comes back three times in a week. It stays private this month, and that’s fine. Not everything needs witnesses to be real.

Practice

Write down the thing that keeps returning. One sentence, no more. Date the page and put it somewhere you won’t look at it again until October.

Where you’ll notice it

At work, an idea shows up with heat behind it. A new direction, a new chapter, something you’ve been circling for months that finally has a shape you can see. You’ll want to move on it, and you should.

In a relationship, a new chapter opens. Something is being written between two people that wasn’t there in August, and it has its own momentum. You don’t have to push it and you don’t have to slow it down.

And in your body, a routine changes on its own. The bedtime, the walk, what you eat before noon. This month the change comes out of appetite instead of discipline, which is why it holds.

You’re writing a draft

Nothing has to be final in September. What you start now is a first version, and first versions are supposed to be loose and a little wrong.

October and November are for the pruning. That’s when you cut back what doesn’t hold, sharpen what does, and see what the thing actually wants to be. The same is true in relationships, and in work, and in whatever you’re building quietly at your kitchen table.

Begin anyway. Just hold it loosely.

Practice

Take the sentence you wrote down and do the smallest possible version of it this month. One phone call. One paragraph. One morning of getting up earlier than usual. Under an hour, start to finish.

The 22nd

On the 22nd, light and dark come out even. It’s one of the two days in the year when the balance is exact, and then the dark gets longer from there.

Four days later, on the 26th, something you’ve been holding for everyone else comes up for air. What you want stops being a background noise. It gets loud for a day or so and then settles, and the thing it said stays with you.

Practice

On the 22nd, if you can, sit for five minutes around five in the evening. Ask yourself out loud what you’re carrying that was never yours to carry. Say the answer out loud too, even if nobody is home.

Three dates to hold

The 10th.
The turn. Before it and after it feel like different months.

The 22nd.
Even light. A pause before the year tips toward dark.

The 26th.
What you want gets loud.

There isn’t much to do this month, and I think that’s the whole of it. Whatever is starting in you gets to stay small and unfinished for a while, which is a kindness if you let it be one, and October will do the sharpening when it comes.

Rest first. The rest of it can wait.
